Web2rism project
Web2rism project is born by the co-operation of leading academic institutions with Promax Comunication SA, a Swiss company leader in marketing & communication services within global tourism industry.
Web2rism, developed by researchers of the University of italian Switzerland coordinated by prof. Lorenzo Cantoni, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences and leading expert of eTourism, eGovernment and eLearning, has been designed to analyze, through an intelligent software developed ad hoc for this initiative, the online reputation of individual tourism destinations, considering only UGC “User Generated Contents” published in the so-called “web 2.0” (blogs, wikis, social networking websites …).
Exceptional supporter of this innovative project has been the KTI – Agency for the Promotion of Innovation of the Swiss Confederation that, aware of the importance covering today the analysis and monitoring of online reputation in tourism industry, has decided to fund this very active group of researchers and thus give off a series of initiatives focused on the quality cerification of online tourism promotion.

Web2rism has been commissioned by the Swiss Tourism Awards (www.swiss-tourism-awards.ch) and the Swiss International Holiday Exhibition – SIHE (www.sihe.ch) (Lugano, November 1-3, 2024) to analyze the online reputation of international tourist destinations.
Developed by a team of researchers from the University of Italian Switzerland in Lugano, with financial support from the Swiss Confederation and Promax Events, a leading Swiss event organization company, Web2rism is, in fact, the business intelligence software for the tourism industry capable of examining millions of web pages and providing a comprehensive report on the online reputation of tourist destinations.
The sophisticated algorithm of Web2rism, jealously guarded in Switzerland, has finished analyzing the web and will soon reveal the ranking of the locations that have surpassed the minimum threshold of 60% in the approval index, thus earning the “Web2rism Certified Destination” certification.
Today in Europe, over 87% of consumers seek information online before planning a trip, making Web2rism an important tool for the entire tourism sector: knowing and managing one’s “online reputation,” made up of comments and reviews on specialized sites, blogs, and social networks, is indeed a fundamental factor in the marketing strategy of any product or company.
The Web2rism Certified Destinations will be candidates for the 2024 Swiss Tourism Awards. The Swiss Tourism Awards 2024 will be presented during the 21st edition of the Swiss International Holiday Exhibition, which welcomes 11,000 Swiss families, generating a business turnover of 50 million Swiss Francs/Euros solely for vacations.
